Murder mystery party script - Desi style

Who wants to be a murderer tonight? where murderer wont be punished after being caught? your friends will catch you instead of helping...sounds interesting? get ready to experience the craziness, fun, laughter... Murder mystery party!! yes! this is our party theme. When i first heard the concept i liked it instantly but to make it happen was not so easy required so much of planning. I immediately put on my thinking cap and started thinking like a director who writes the script and directs his movie. This party script was not less than a movie script for me. After so much hard work when the party was a hit and people loved the whole experience of the party i was on cloud nine whose was blockbuster hit. I know this does not open my doors to be a director. But still i can share my hit story with you guys, in case you havent got any script yet and have no time to write then you are at right place.
You must have got the idea of the party from my previous post. For the  people who are new and have not seen i will make a quick recap. Guests arrive at the party according to the characters assigned. Murder occurs either during the course of the dinner or before the party begins. There are specific number of characters in the story to match the size of your group with background information, costume instructions. Each guest receives a detailed character description in their invitation along with some information on the party and after the act is done, murderer is guessed by all the guests. You can add your own innovations and more detailing to characters if you want.

Here is the basic scenario of the murder mystery night: The party was blockbuster movie themed so all the people worked in the movie where guests at the party to celebrate the success of the film. All the characters are assigned to the guest with the invitations. The movie has got a huge opening and its already a hit. As the party progresses the gun is shot during the performance of the hero where lights goes off, when the lights are on hero of the movie is down on the ground dead! The party is called of and everyone at the party are now suspects to the murder of the hero.
Guests must deduce  the murderer in order to win the game, they make accusations and tell every one who committed the murder and why? investigator helps proceed with the clues and each clue lead to the murderer with the background story.

Invitations with the character description:

 Hello all! You are invited to the success party of a blockbuster movie " Ashique Awara" starring: salman khan and katrina kaif directed by karan johar produced by siddhart roy kapoor. Salman khan who as been introduced as singer with this movie will be performing tonight. You have rarest ticket to the best night of excitement.
One person will be the murderer, if you are not the murderer you can try and trick every one into believing you are. Some of the character back stories may contain clues. Piece together all clues and you may find the murderer. Each person will be allowed to guess at the end. Its meant to be for fun for all!
Note: come dressed like your character.

Name of the movie and the character names can be changed,above given names are for example. With this invitation send a character description of that person given below.

Director :

You are rich and now successful director too.. people believe you'l take bollywood cinema to new level with ur creative and classic work. you are a hard working director who left no steps unturned to be successful be it marrying a famous actress or linkups . every actor wants to work with you . you are like mentor to rajesh khanna you pair is hit on screen. bold, dominating, needs controlling everything.

Directors wife :

You are known as queen of bollywood. you are married to a rich successful director. u are now a true socialite. you are abut to launch production house . your life has always been in limelight. stylish, selfish,loves to be center of attraction

Producer:

With your wealth and smartness you have proved yourself as smart businessman. you are good friend with director. you both are like hit formulae. you are a real businessman at heart. you are looking forward to investing on more flims. confident, smooth, smart.

Supporting actor:

You are big star lead hero is  competitor to you. you both acted in few films together . you both are friends turned rivals . you now dnt like the actor.  loud, impulsive, bold.

Actress:

You are know to steal the show. new to the industry and your last 2 movies are hit. you have a large fan following. you have been in news for your linkups, movies, parties, breakups. outgoing,bold,flirtatious.

News reporter :

You have earned quite a reputation for your ability to try any under handed trick you can think of to get the latest scoop. ofcourse , your methods arent always legal .. but that only matters if you get caught, right? you have covered all the conspiracies in town for 'peoples magazine'. confident, catty, smart, active. 

Actor :
You are known as future superstar for you choice of films with the director and acting skills. You have a large female following because of your charming nature and good looks. Director is said to be your mentor. You have turned into a singer with this movie. prim and proper, can be obideint and also deceiving.

Assistant director:
You have a military background and are short tempered. You are not very social and doesnt have many friends. People are usually scared by your strong personality. You always carry gun with you.
grumpy,rough,loyal,wants nothing more than to find killer.


After all the invitations are sent out. Now get ready for the party, i was so excited about this party and wanted to be party of the mystery so i became a secret detective while hosting the party. Before the party i prepared the objectives of each character, planted the clues. When all the guest arrived every one looked curious to know what each one was playing and i was surprised to see how well dressed my friend turned in for the party. Before beginning to host the party appetizers where served with the envelope.
With so much enthusiasm and excited i started by introducing myself as a host for the evening. Later called each person on stage to describe about there character to all the guests. Give enough time for guests to read and understand there objectives to finish in the party.
Now its time for the hero of the party to perform. While the actor is performing the lights goes off and gun is shot ( host should make sure this is done on time properly). When the lights are on hero is down on ground dead. People rush to the stage and all of them are suspects. Investigator proceeds with accusing the first person found near the dead body and presents the evidences to all the guests. Meanwhile all the suspects deny the accusations. In the end every one is allowed to guess and murderer is revealed. Now i will give you the objectives of each character in the play.

News Reporter:

Objectives to finish after murder:

1. When lights goes off and gun is shot immediately run towards the stage and check if the actor is dead. Note: While doing this you have some blood on your hands.

2. You covered the full story of the actor and actress love story and their breakup.

3. When your accused of the murder tell every one, yes you had an argument with the actor at press conference recently and you threatened to destroy his career but you dint mean to kill him.
4. Tell every one you have been following actor for a story and you know he was in relationship with someone who was married thus broke with actress.
5. Accuse actress for having all the reasons to kill.
6. When producer is accused tell everyone you photographed producer getting cozy with directors wife. Later producer gave huge amount to hide the story.

Actress:

Objectives to finish after murder:

1. When accused slip your purse on the floor and make sure gun falls on ground.

2. Justify yourself saying you have gun for your protection because one of your fan have been stalking you.

3. Tell every one your not the murderer and last week at some party supporting actor was  drunk and told you he was going to stab actor in back accuse supporting actor for the murder.

4. Remember when the supporting actor tells everyone that you both dated speak up and tell every one that you were never in a relationship with actor but it was producer who asked you to act like couples for publicity. Initially hero refused to do it but later surprisingly he did not have any issues.

5. Also tell everyone you tried flirting with the hero many times but he was never interested.

6. Accuse producer for the murder.

Supporting Actor:

Objectives to finish after murder:

1.You are having a gun when accused tell everyone you have interest in gun and you carry it because you think its cool to have a gun.
2. Tell every one you and actor used to be best friends earlier and you are the one who was first considered as main lead but actor ratted you out to the director for drinking on the job.
3. You where removed from the role because of the actor so you had a grudge on him.
4. Confess, yes! one night at drunken state you told the actress you will stab but you told when drunk and it meant nothing in real.
5. Convince every one you are not the murderer
6. Accuse the producer that he wanted to replace the actor because he was demanding more money and he was cooking for a way to get rid of him.
7. Also tell every one that actress was never in  relationship with the hero because you both are couple and have been dating from long time.

Producer:

Objectives to finish after murder: 

1. When the supporting actor is accused by the actress tell every one you saw the gun in actors pocket during the show.
2. You are not the murderer so  try to convince and justify everyone.
3. When you are accused and questioned tell everyone that you are good friends with director. So director's wife and you share a good relation nothing more than that.
4. And yes, you thought he was getting old and boring. He was also demanding money so you where looking for new hero but never wanted to kill.
5. When assistant director enters with gun. Accuse him for murder and tell everyone that he never liked actor. Because actor always kept insulting him. He is short tempered and is good with shooting and guns.
6. When directors wife points that is your gun tell everyone, it is your gun but you lost it last week on the sets. He was searching for it and was about to complaint.
7. Accuse director for the murder. And tell every one director had relationship with the hero and you knew about this. You blackmailed the actor many times due to this reason.

Director:

Objective to finish after murder:

1. When accused tell every one you are the director and also like mentor to the hero you signed for 2 more films. You give him career advice and always watch his performance closely.
2. Your marriage with your wife has always been tough because of her starry attitude and you have unreasonable problems due to this you decided to divorce her soon.
3. Confess during last one year you and hero had an affair but broke up because you found a new girl who made you realize this was wrong.
4. Hero was threatening to expose there love affair and also tell he got to knew something about the producer and was not afraid of him either.
5. Convince everyone that your not the murderer some one is trying to frame you.

Director's wife:

Objectives to finish after murder:

1.You are the murderer( let no one know)

2. When you are accused tell everyone that you dint like him as an actor and the kind of influence he had on your husband.

3. You went to meet in actors room because he called you to clear the differences you had a casual disagreement not fight. You have no idea why he looked worried.

4. Point the producer stating this gun is his and you saw director using this gun many times. Accuse producer and director.

You don't have to tell people these next secrets but you cant contradict on them. You had a troubled marriage. Assistant director:

Objectives to finish after murder:

1. When producer is accused and he starts justifying himself you must enter the scene with a gun in your hand.
2. Tell every one you went to washroom during the performance and your found this gun in the corridor while returning. Your not the murderer, convince.
3. Also tell the actor always kept insulting him by making loose comments on him. you dint like being insulted all the time so dint like actor much.
4. You are not the murderer.
5. Tell every one that you remember seeing directors wife on the sets last week and talking to actor. You found it strange because directors wife never liked the actor. Accuse her for the murder.

Motto of the murder:

(remember this is to be read by the murderer loud)

I had a troubled marriage. My husband cheated on me many times because he was never in love with me. I knew about my husbands affair with the actor but couldnt do anything so i decided to remain quite until one day when i found the check and a slip in my husbands pocket and knew he was trying to blackmail him. When i spoke to actor, he some how came to know about my secret relationship with the producer and he called me to blackmail. I had an argument with the actor  and decided to kill him meanwhile i took producers gun and shot the actor during the performance. Then i slowly joined the crowd .

The host of the party have to manage and see to it every thing goes according to the script and hide all the necessary props i.e., guns as per the script. If the host is interested in being part of the act then he/she can be the host of the party like commentator who is actually a detective. Ask questions to all the suspects and deduce the case in the end. Finally after each one takes a guess murder is revealed and motto of the murder is revealed by the killer. Remember this is after all for fun.. give away lovely gifts to the guest and the person who guessed the murderer. Hope you guys love this script filled with loads of drama, revenge and love.

I like dandiya, I like garba

We all start grooving and it feels like dancing when we hear punjabi music right? its so rejuvenating and full of life. yes, as you all must have guessed today's theme for our party is punjabi dhaba with feel of punjab. I am really excited about this punjabi theme, its nothing new and it doesnt even requires any description. This is a unique and beautiful style from the heart of punjab. They have their own style of dressing and speaking. Punjabi language is so well known and can be heard in our day to day life, sometimes we dont even realize.

Its become latest trend in bollywood to use punjabi language in many songs and movie dialogues. Not only just adapting the language, their fashion statement is also very popular among people. This theme bought lots of liveliness and madness to our potluck party.
Punjabi's are known as hardcore foodies, there love for food is well known. Punjabi cuisine has become so popular among people that many dhabas are opened which serve punjabi food with the feel. Every person at least once must have gone to dhaba and experienced the fantastic food and lovely ambiance. This theme was chosen by my friends to get the feel and touch of punjab through food, dress, language.

If you want to make it more real then you can decorate your room with few props to get the feel. Stick few kites on different corners of your wall, place few dry grass in the corners of your room if you can get and decorate with triangular flag mobiles all around the house. Arrange few different types of automobiles toys on the tables like auto, truck, lorry. If your guests are comfortable you can try placing mat on ground and arrange sitting on the floor. Done!You are all set for the party, now let me show you how you can talk and dress like a punjabi quickly.

Punjabi language:

Sat siri akal g, kee haal hai? meri gal suniya tussi, mere parati de vicara nu hai?  mere varaga pajabi vica gala musakala nahi hai. Kake, punjabi na toh chupchap aati hai na toh chup chap jate hai; samjheya si? Talking in punjabi is not that difficult, there are many famous and well known common phrases used. Some of them are funny, some of them are sweet, some of them say more than they should,some of them were spoken to us by our beloved ones, some by enemies. All you have to do is learn few of these basic phrases combine with hindi and done you can surprise your friends at party.

Punjabi style of dressing:

Punjabi boys and girls have their unique fashion statement simple and elegant. Girls with patyala and paranda where as boys wearing kurta and pagdi. All you need to have is kurta and patyala or just casual shirt with pagdi and say singh is king.

Punjabi dhaba food:

When we hear dhaba first thing that comes to our mind is thier mouth watering delicious food. Punjabi theme can not be complete with yummy food. Makke ki roti de sarson ka saag is the famous food heard most of the time. Not just this you can add more authentic punjabi food to your menu. Me and my friends chose chole bhature, samosa, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka with thandi thandi lassie along with warm soft gulab jamun. ah! yumm.. that was very delicious, you can try and add more dishes like butter chicken, dal makhni, palak paneer, tandoori, dal fry, aloo paratha, rajma chawal.. with jalebi, rabri, halwa, phirni. Basic idea is to make a complete thali. Choose your dishes accordingly.

Fun games for the party:

Punjabi haath nahi dekha kya? is the famous dialogue said to give the example of punjabi strength. So i have put together few games where everyone gets the chance to show off there strength.

1. Punja (arm wrestling): when we talk of strength first thing that comes to mind is punja where two player sit on the opposite ends of the table and while resting there elbows on the table bent. holding opposite players hand. aim is to put opponents hand down.

2. Tug of war: divide into two teams and you may need a rope . draw a line in between and start pulling the rope from each end. who ever crosses the line loses the game.

3. Ask your guest to say a joke in punjabi or you can just ask them to say a famous punjabi dialogue or sing.

Playing games depends on the space around you in the party, if you have outdoor party then you can try competition in flying kites, play kabaddi famous sport of punjab.

Punjabi music:

No party is complete without music. Play some punjabi hit bollywood numbers and you guests cant stop themselves from shaking their leg. In between play a punjabi bhangda beats and just do bhangda. Because it all about having fun right. I have listed few songs, you can use them in case you have difficulty finding them.

New murder mystery party theme

Bored of routine parties and want to try some thing new and trilling. Then here it is, "Murder mystery party"; yes, you heard it right "murder" mystery. This is an interesting party game getting very popular these days. At my recent potluck we had this theme and it was a huge hit, every one loved and enjoyed playing it. From the name " murder mystery party" you must have got the idea there is a murder and a mystery that is to be solved. Now i'l tell you in detail what this game actually is and how this is to be played and hosted.

As you know this is a murder mystery party. During the party each guest will be playing the role of a crew member assigned by the host. The level of success and enjoyment will naturally vary depending on the presentation of your guests and their level of acting talent. If you still are confused about the theme then i will explain in more detail, murder occurs either during the course of the dinner or before the party begins. 6. Investigator reads and helps on how to proceed where each guest plays their part. 

7. Investigator presents evidences.

8. Host hands out accusation list guessing the murderer along with best dressed and best acting is judged.

9. Murderer is revealed.

10. Person who correctly guesses the murderer and gets max points wins the game.

Well  as you all guys must have understood the party theme. Prize is given at the end of the game to the person who correctly guesses the killer this will keep the sporting spirit in guests. Now all you need is a good script or story to play. You can find few readily available on the internet or you can write your own murder mystery. Writing a story is not so difficult you have to keep few points in mind. Here are few things that may help you write your own mystery

How to write a murder mystery:

1. Choose some specific scenario of the story like it is based in casino or masquerade party.

2. Build your characters according to your guests.

3. Write a main motive for the murder. Make sure every character may be very vague but  

should have a motive to kill the victim.

4. Plot few clues that may lead to the killer and few that may confuse.

5. Build background stories and objectives for each guest to finish either before murder or after the murder.

6. Finally prepare an invitation for your guest. and your all set for the party.

Bollywood retro theme !! lets get vintage....

Its always exciting to know our history and when the history comes back how would that feel?? like taking a time travel back rite... So lets get live the history again with retro style party. Retro style is nothing but the fashion our grand parents and parents saw and wore. Its interesting to dress up like them and party in vintage style. Its said "OLD IS GOLD"  retro look also called vintage style never goes off. It always comes back into time to create yet another trend of fashion and style. This is an amazing way to look gorgeous.
Looking for party themes what struck my mind next was retro look, getting back into good old days. I always like and choose themes such that my friends find it easy to dress up not confusing. Today il tell u how me and my friends got retro look. Not just about the look, il discuss about the retro food from past and few games to play at the party to keep the spirit up. I enjoyed a lot at this party it was liking taking a time travel to past 70s and 80s.

Retro look:

Getting this look is not that difficult. We see in bollywood movies now a days actors keep wearing retro clothes for characters and also in the old movies we saw in your childhood. If you have not then dont worry il show you few looks that can help you dress like them. Ask your grandparents and parents for old clothes if they have them stored, you can use them. To create this look all you got to have is boot cut and high waist pants paired with funky colorful shirts. For girls all you need to have is a saree or short shirt with chudi bottom. In my potluck party i picked a bight colorful saree and draped in famous mumtaz style. My friends all came dressed in very innovative characters someone came dressed as raj kapoor, some one got the look of bola from padosan. Here are few looks you may find interesting and will help you get the idea.

Makeup and hairstyle:

Hairstyle and makeup where giving much importance in olden days. Actresses took so much time just to get their hair perfectly done. Most famous hair style know to every one is the bump on the head, which got high day by day. Who can forget that smokey eye makeup with long wings. One of those look is scarf tied hairstyle, having long waves and side braided hair with a flower to add extra touch.

Retro food:

You must have not heard of retro food, this is no new recipe or cuisine. But dishes that were famous in 70s and 80s and even today people love them i call it retro food. In my potluck party we had samosas, pakoda, lentil soup, paratha, tandoori chicken. Rice and wheat was grown by many people and loved by people in the past. Simple chicken curry served with rice , dal, aloo tikki, chole. Fresh vegetables where grown in the backyards of the houses and veg curries were loved like.. bhendi fry, potato curry. You can find these recipes readily available on internet. These dishes may not look so famous but brings back good old memories...

Games:

Games always are fun and helps as ice breakers in the party. You can have some old retro games known from ages. Choose depending on the people in your party. Here are list of few interesting games that can be played.

1. Dumb charades: 

If you have groups of large people then this is the perfect old games. Make two teams and one team gives the name of the movie to one player of the other team. That player acts being dumb so that his team can guess the name. If you want some difficult bollywood movie name suggestions you can check my previous post, that will help you win.

2. Guessing the name:

If you have a small group to play dumb charades then write down the names of movies on a paper and put them in a hat or bottle. Ask each guest to pick and act for the guests. You have the list from my blog.

3. Passing the parcel:

One player player the referee and plays the music. Parcel is kept passing among the players( better if you sit in circle) and when the music goes off the person having the parcel is out. First the referee gives them some fun task to do . On next turn the first player out will give the task to next player out, it goes on until you have the winner. The person who remains till end is the winner and he gets a prize.

4. Langdi tang:

If you have a large area to play then you can play this game. Place some random stuff around the room. Each player hops and fetches those items. Keep your stop watch ready and count the time. Person who finishes fast wins the game.

5. Antakshari:

Who doent know this game... Baithe baithe kya kare hum karna hai kuch kam, shuru karo antakshari leke prabhu ka naam and the game begins. Make two teams , one team sings a song and the other team should sing a song with the last letter of the song they sang. They are given some some to start the song, if they could not sing other team can sing and get the point. Games goes on. This is an exciting ice breaker game.



This retro theme party is exciting and fun loving, brings the old memories back. I had fun with my friends with yummy food, exciting games and pretty looking guests. Next time you plan a party try this retro style i bet you will have loads of fun....

 

Dumb Charades can never be easy...

Dumb charades! guessing movie names, yes! very old game played from decades. Every person no matter what age group likes this game. Where some people are good at acting, some people are good at guessing. Combination of this makes a tough team just like my friends. Every time we play this game we keep thinking of the tough movie names so that you can win and the player from the opposite team can not act. This also leads us to know new and weird names of movies.
Once i played this game with my friends and they were like so perfect at this game, they guessed all the movie names i suggested. After this incident i looked out for some tough movie names. When we played next time i gave all of those tough movie names i searched and every one looked amazed at me. Now they consider me as tough competition... Tapori theme...bhai log mafik party..

Recently at pot luck party with my friends, we had this well know yet very interesting theme called tapori theme. It was so much fun where all came dressed as tapori, talking like them, famous indian street food was cooked and games where organised. Next time you plan a party and looking for some interesting theme that makes your party happening then this is the correct theme. Its not so difficult, every one might have heard and few including me have even tried singing like amair khan "aye... kya bolti tu.. aye... kya main boloun...sun.. suna..aati kya khandala" and shahrukh khan saying " apun bola tumaeri laila, woh boli phekta hai sala". Many bollywood movies have been showing these characters and many actors have made this famous with catchy dailogues. This is basically unique language and style of people of mumbai. Lets get started with the look and language.

Talk and dress up like tapori:

Apne dimag pa zyada load nahi lene ka. Apun abhi cut to cut baath karega. Abhi fultoo zhakaas bhai log mafik party kaise karneka bolega apun. Pehle toh apun mafik bolna seekhne ka kya.. aur sab ki waat laga dalne ka. See talking in tapori language is not so difficult, all we have to know is some basic words that are used and mix it with hindi and you are all done. Basic words you need to know are like...

Example:

Cut to cut baat karne ka- to speak concisely or briefly
Chava or Chavi - Boyfriend/girlfriend.
Double battery - A person wearing prescription glasses.
Haila or Aaila - “Oh God”.
Chappan tikkli - One with lots of ****les on his/her face.
Time khoti mat kar- Do not waste time
Kalti- Get lost or goes away.
Kaiko - Why?
Cutting - Half a glass of tea.
Boss - Form of address to a friend, unrelated person or stranger.
Kharcha-paani - to beating up somebody.
Fultoo - Too good or very cool,
Talli - Drunk.
Dedh-foot or Dedh-futya - Refer to a short person.
Mamu - Depending on context may mean a police constable or a eunuch.
Waat or Vaat - to be in trouble.
Paan-patti or Tapri - A small shop selling tobacco, cigarettes, toffees and optionally, tea.
Shendi- make a fool of others.
Galat Faimili- misunderstanding
Khopche- a secret place
Jhakaas Item-a beautiful lady
Jyaada RAAG mat de..- Don't just bluff..OK!
LOAD nahi leneka kya-Don't take much tension.
Hata Saawan Ki Ghata-I don't care about it much..

Raapchik Maal- a sensuous/unexplainably charming lady. 

Rappak ( stress on "pp" ) - means Slap. ( eg. Kaan kay neechay rappak lagaoonga. )
Tapri - A road side shop.
Chotay - For any kid working in a Tapri. If the shop has more than one kid ... all would have to be Chotays.

Now when you have know about the language now its time to learn how to dress like one tapori. This is actually not that difficult all you have to do is pick up a pair of jeans and colorful shirt tie a knot on the waist then tie handkerchief around your neck, tada! your done. Food:

 Most important thing FOOD... potluck parties are mainly about different types of foods. As this is tapori theme choose all famous indian street foods. We had Pani puri, Bhel puri, Ragda chat, Vada pav, Pav bhaji. You can also have Dahi puri, Cut mirchi, grilled corn. You can find all these recipes readily available on internet.

Games:

Now you are all set for the party. To keep the party going you can plan few activities for the guests and play some tapori music in background. If you are confused and have no idea of what activities to plan here are few games you can organize for your guests.

1. Maarampitti:  

This is  always a fun game played on every indian street and every one must have enjoyed in your childhood. This game is played with a small soft ball. The person holding the ball gets to hit any other player with the ball any where on the body and the person being hit tries to escape. If he gets hit he get to hold the ball and hit. The person who never gets hit is the winner. 

2. Blow up balloons:

Hang up balloons from the roof and give a pebble to hit with sling shot. each person gets to aim at balloons. 

3. Act like bhai log:

Ask each person to talk for 2 minutes in tapori language. Best spoken person is the winner.

Music:

Play hit bollywood tapori songs. If you are looking for songs you can play during the evening and make every guest to dance on the numbers . Then here are few list of songs.
